He puts it in their hearts

at meeting yesterday a thought came to me - my mind was wandering most of the session as it was so boring - about how the jws say that god will put it into the hearts of the political leaders to overturn religion at the start of the great tribulation.

they also claim this about maneuvered events in the ot too.

jws also claim that when someone has the right heart condition, they come to find jah.

If you read carefully the Old Testament, in many instances where Yahweh is said to predict something to happen in the future, it is stated or implied that he makes that thing happen. It is even one possible meaning of the name Yahweh.

This way also you and me can predict the future: If there is a banana on a table, predict that it will soon be on the floor, then drop it down and there it is!

For this kind of predictions one does not need to determine the inital state of things or consider possible scenarios or to do complicated calculations. In fact such an analysis in many cases would be impossible, even for a god.

Noah's Ark

so i'm reading the book "the atheist book of bible stories" and something just occurred to me.. noahs ark rested on the top of mount ararat.

how the hell did all the land animals, dinosaurs and other monsters get to ground level?

did noah and his family just push them off the mountain and hope for the best?

Should not forget small animals either. Did Noah need to go collect all kinds of worms, not to go fishing with his ark, but because even an ordinary heavy rainfall can kill them. And how long after the flood did it take for the kind of worms living only in Australia to get there? Together with the rest of the peculiar ecosystem they now are a part of.

I have read half of it. After my first try, I was given a hint that I should start reading from the end. The oldest and most readable parts are there, giving the basic foundations of the faith, like the relation between a man and his God. The long visions at the beginning of the book are difficult to comprehend without lots of background information.

some people point out the subliminal pictures in the wtbts publications but sometimes things are just so obvious, such as the title of the book above.. the person who came up with the title for this book must have had a good old laugh.. interestingly, this book first came out in 1988 and has not been included in the online library but nothing has replaced it.

Eagerly anticipating the death of billions!

surely someone who eagerly looks forward to the death of billions of people (including babies and children) is not emotionally healthy?.

yet, that is the key belief "happily" anticipated by witnesses.... food for thought?.

To witnesses, if possible, I try to give this exercise, appealing to emotional intelligence (instead of what they are trained in), that I hope they shall remember:

"Go and look at smiling children playing in a park. In the flood, you say, God drowned many such children. In the Armageddon, you say, your God will butcher much more children. Go, look, think. Aren't such reactions out of proportions?" Another line of thinking could, after hearing the standard WT explanation, be: "You say your God is omniscient and omnipotent. Do you think such a God is unable to find a better solution to the problem?"

What were Satan and his demons "doing" up in heaven, before being "cast down" in 1914?

i was just thinking about how the wts has been spouting off for years that satan and his demons were cast down to the vicinity of the earth in 1914, but really, when you think about it, what was the difference before 1914 or after 1914?.

its not like satan and his demons did not have access to the earth.

satan and his demons always were messing with earth.

In the beginning of the book of Job, Satan told God that he had basically been hanging around and, before that, some angels had come from heaven to copulate with humans. Evidently heaven is a boring place. Apart from these, in the OT, Satan and his angels are not met too often, so where the hell they were and what where they doing with their supernatural powers? Waiting for poor humans to contact them by means of drawing occult symbols in the sand combined with some acrobatics?

It is not even made clear in the OT that the same person(?) had been behind the Snake of Eden. That information is more easily found in writings considered apochryphal, just like the general theme of the fight between some universal god and evil is central in the wisdom books of other traditions of the time. Indeed, the Bible does not tell much about our supposedly worst enemy.

WW2 seems to have been a more important turning point than WW1 in determining what the world was going to look like for a long time,. As a conflict WW2 was a really global one. It was the beginning of the Eastern bloc in Europe and of the nuclear threat. The collapse of the Eastern block was another big turning point, including the quite peaceful retirement of the "King of North. The WT socitey was, of course, unable to "foretell" these, as it had been in foretelling what actualy happend in 1914.
